Back to School and Labor Day Weekend

Hey Everyone!

Sorry it's been a while since I updated. Well school is going pretty good so far. I have three design classes : Drafting, Survey of Materials and History of Furniture and Design. I also have a Marketing class. Marketing class is okay. We have a group project and my group had to come up with a new grooming product, test marketed, in New Orleans. Our product is a shampoo/body wash combo that has anti-perspirant in it. So you have one product...( I have to give credit to momma..it was her idea).

Drafting class is okay right now. Learning how to read the triangular scale. Materials class is interesting. I'm learning a lot about different materials like concrete, stone, and brick. Furniture class is okay.. the teacher is not that exciting.

Went to Atlanta last weekend with mom and Frank and saw Alton Brown!! For those of you who don't know who he is, he is a chef/scientist/ entertainer on Food Network. His show, Good Eats, was celebrating its 10 year anniversary. It was a lot of fun!

This past weekend, I came home for the Apple Festival. I had a caramel apple and it was yummy. Celebrated Daddy's birthday yesterday since he has to work on his birthday. Donna made pot roast with carrots and potatoes. Also had angel food cake with strawberries.

Going back to school today. I will try and keep this updated.

Father's Day Celebration

Sorry it has been so long since I updated.

This past Thursday, we celebrated Father's Day. We had hotdogs, baked beans, and coleslaw. Nana came out also. We also had ice cream which was yummy and 1/2 the fat. haha. So you feel okay when you eat a big bowel. It was Pet ice cream and the flavor was Brownie something.

For Father's Day, we made two scrapbooks for daddy and fixed up another one. It was all of Matthew's sports (baseball and basketball) clippings from the paper and also some pictures. Daddy really liked it.

Tomorrow, we are going to go to church with Grandma and Granddaddy and then go out to eat.

Please pray for Donna's Mom (Mrs. Baker). She has gone back to the hospital. The last I heard (around 11 am)- she had woken up and was responsive. Much better report than last night.

Happy Father's Day to all the fathers.

Birthday Celebration with Dad

Today, my daddy took me out for my birthday. We went and ate at Ironstone Grill. It was delicious. Roast beef, green beans, roasted potatoes, corn nuggets. mmm. Then we went to see where the movie theater was...ok funny story. I had just passed this theater on Monday on my way back from Atlanta. I told daddy that it was "just down the road." So we kept driving and beginning to wonder. We ended up near the sign for the Nanahala Forest. Whoops! haha. I forgot to tell him that you have to get on 441 South. So we turned back around and then we found it. Sorry dad. Then we had time to spare so we went to downtown Franklin and drove around. We ate some ice cream at a place called Peppermint Patties. Didn't see Charlie Brown or Linus. haha. I had chocolate covered cherry ice cream and daddy had sugar free butter pecan. Then we went and saw where I used we used to swim for conference with H-CATS. It looks different. Then we wasted some time in Big Lots. Got two good movies for $6. Then we went and saw 17 Again with Zac Efron. It was so good.

Thank you daddy for my birthday celebration. I love you!

Hello everyone.

Sorry it's been so long since I updated. School's going well...almost over. Last day is May 1st and then exams the next week. Had a good Easter Break. Worked some and hung out with family. Grafitti Art

For one of my 2-D projects, we created graffiti. We had to come up with a "tag"- which is basically your name. Then you had to fill up the rest of the space with whatever you wanted. Then she told us that we had to work with other people and incorporate each others ideas so it flowed throughout the canvas.

My tag is my name Amanda.
I have a cross for religion. I have WCU because that's where I am receiving my degree and because it's important to me. I have a Christmas tree because I LOVE Christmas and the holidays. I have an issue of People magazine because that is my favorite guilty pleasure. I have a flip-flop that says "RIP" on it because I usually wear flip-flops so much, that I wear them out quickly. I have a heart that says "I Love Lucy" because that is one of my favorite shows. I have a house that looks nice on one side and bad on the other because I want to restore old houses. There is red polka dots because I like polka dots.

I included my grafitti and a picture of the whole thing. Enjoy.

Update

Hello.

Sorry it's been so long on me updating my blog. Spring Break was a couple of weeks ago. I didn't really do much. Enjoyed the 7 and 1/2 inches of snow that I got on Spring Break. haha kind of ironic. Worked a couple of days at the country club.

School is going pretty well. I will be updating my blog soon with some of my art projects that I am working on. Submitted 2 of my drawings to NOMAD (the literary magazine). It will be reviewed and I will find out in April if it will be in the fall issue.

Congratulations on Matthew and the Falcons team!! Not been able to go to any but I am keeping up on the internet.

Will be updating soon.

Grove Park Inn

Snowfall

This picture below is what my friend Ashley Richard did. Her caption said "A snowman on his snowlaptop chatting with his snowhomies on snowfacebook." I thought that was so cute. I can't believe it's snowing on my Spring Break. It's almost like I'm on Winter Break. Last time I checked around 9:30ish, we had 7.5 inches of snow.

Adventure to the Asheville Art Museum.

This past Friday, I went to the Asheville Art Museum for our Project 5. I went and saw Eva Zeisel’s The Shape of Life. I had a great time. Her work was amazing. Eva Zeisel was born in Hungary in 1906. She was the first woman at the Royal Academy to learn the craft of ceramics. She has had a very successful life. She takes advantage of the softness of the clay. She had ceramics, glass objects, and a table that she designed. I had never been in an art museum when I was really able to appreciate it. I really enjoyed going and just spending time in almost another world. It was very relaxing. I have added a couple pieces of her artwork. I used the guidelines that we used in our library session to describe the artwork I saw. I wrote a formal description on either six or seven pieces. I have it all written down in my notebook. I will be making a powerpoint soon.

More Environmental Intervention

Here is some more of my environmental intervention. It was so pretty outside today..almost like a Spring Day. I decided that I would take some more pics for my project. First is just branches that I stuck inside the cracks of the wall. Second, I took some sort of shells that I found and spelled out "WCU". Third, I just wrote "Hello" in the dirt with a rock. Fourth, I took rocks that I found and made a goal post with a football going through. TD-Touch down! That was in honor of the Super Bowl tonight. Fifth, I took some branches and made art. Last, I took some bigger rocks and placed them on the poles.

Artwork from my Class Tonight

For my Art 3-D class, we learned about artists who use the environment for their medium. It's called environmental intervention. Andy Goldsworthy is a famous guy who does this. You use the environment and just change it up a little bit. The first two pictures are leaves and brush that I transformed into a wreath. The second picture is a pinecone stuck between the railing. The last pictures are my favorite. Jennifer, this girl in my class, and I took leaves and brush and put them across the road. It LITERALLY stopped traffic. This guy was like whoa! I said don't worry, it's just leaves. WE thought it was funny.

Oh and on my other project where I had to make something out of paper and one out of cardboard..I got an 86. I'm proud of that grade considering she said she does not really give out A's.

I will update soon.

They fed me great, bought me some stuff for my dorm, and my granddaddy took me to the art supply store in Waynesville. Also my granddaddy helped me with my art projects. Thank you!!

I will be putting pictures up once I can get my mom to show me how to do a slideshow of my pictures. I wanted to let everyone know that I have another blog for my 3-D class where I have to post what we did and the pictures, so if you would like to look at it, you can by clicking here

I will try and update more often.

Moved In

The day started at 5:30 this morning. Wow. So long ago. Today was the day that I moved into Western!! Daddy, Momma, Amy, and I left Food Lion in Mills River at 6:30 am. Orientation began at 8:15. That lasted for a while then lunch at Dodson Cafeteria. Around 3ish maybe we moved into my dorm. Got all set up around 5 and then Daddy left to go to Matthew's game (btw they won b/c Keagan Williams made a halfcourt shot making the final score 65-62...against Pisgah in the 1st playoff game).

So Momma, Amy, and I decided to move my room around to make it more roomy. We made a Wal-Mart run for some snacks and cables to get my internet and tv. They left around midnight :)

Tomorrow, I'm going exploring around to see how long it takes to get to my classes and just explore. Will update as much as I can.

Will post some pictures tomorrow.
